Please note that the invitation letter is intended to support the visa application process. Participants are responsible for checking the visa requirements and submitting their visa applications in accordance with the rules of the relevant Chinese embassy, consulate, or visa center.
China currently implements a 30-day visa-free entry policy for ordinary passport holders from a number of countries for purposes including business, tourism, family or friends visits, exchange, and transit. According to the National Immigration Administration of China, ordinary passport holders from eligible countries may enter China visa-free for stays of up to 30 days, and the stay period is calculated from 00:00 on the day following the date of entry.
According to official Chinese embassy FAQ information updated in 2026, the eligible countries include the following 50 countries: Brunei, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Australia, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Republic of Korea, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Russia, Sweden, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Participants from visa-free countries are still strongly advised to check the latest visa policy before departure, as eligibility, duration, purpose of visit, passport type, and implementation period may change. Participants who do not meet the visa-free conditions should apply for an appropriate Chinese visa before traveling. The official FAQ states that the visa waiver for Brunei has no expiry date, Russia’s policy remains effective until December 31, 2027, and the other listed countries are currently covered until December 31, 2026.

The symposium will be held from December 7 to December 10, 2026, at the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Shanghai, China. The meeting will last for four days, including registration, scientific sessions, discussion sessions, and a final synthesis discussion.
The detailed program will be announced in due course. The scientific sessions will be organized around the main themes of the symposium, including Science Drivers, Measurement Pathways, Relativistic Astrometric Modeling and Ephemeris Support, and a Roadmap Toward Sub-micro-arcsecond Astrometry.
